Great for an appetiser or dessert!

You will need:
Fresh figs
Honey
Cinnamon
Butter
Lemon zest
Strained Greek yogurt
Roasted almonds or pistachios for topping
This recipe is very versatile. With small variations, it can either be part of a cheese board, a brunch spread, or a dessert!
Fresh figs never go wrong. They look gorgeous, with their soft velvety skin and colourfully textured insides. When fully ripe, they are sweet but just a bit tart when slightly under ripe.
You can use either for this recipe, just alter the amount of honey if they are not yet ripe.
Cut the figs in a cross on top, and only halfway down. As they bake they will open up, especially if they are ripe.
The honey is a game changer. The butter, honey and cinnamon powder combine to form a delicious combination with the fig. any natural honey pairs well with this recipe. Avoid using a commercial brand, as it is likely got a lot of sugar added.
I like to top it off with a generous portion of sliced roasted almonds or pistachios. The crunch is well contested with the texture of the fig. Dried cranberries also make a great topping.
A variation on the dairy or cream component changes this from a savoury to sweet!
For a brunch spread, top off the bake figs with strained greek yogurt and nuts and serve whole.
For a cheese platter, slice or dice the figs, and serve on a block of cream cheese, topped with the nuts and drizzle the honey from the baking tray
For a dessert, serve whole baked figs with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzle the honey and nuts from the baking tray.
